She started her acting career as a teenager in 1993, playing Zamira in Milcho Mancevski’s Golden Lion awarded Before the Rain. In 1996 she entered into a successful collaboration with Michael Winterbottom. Following Welcome to Sarajevo they worked together in I Want You. For these accomplishments she was chosen as one of the Shooting Stars at the Berlinale in 1998. Her acting carrier continued around Europe, creating over 30 roles in films shot in Germany, Czech Republic, Turkey, Italy, Bulgaria, and Slovenia.
In 2001, Labina, her sister Teona and their brother Vuk established the production company SISTERS AND BROTHER MITEVSKI. All their films are European coproduction. In the company she is responsible for the production.
They are currently in postproduction of their short drawing animation EDNA, animated and directed by Vuk and in postproduction of the new film of Teona, God exists, her name is Petrunija, where Labina is playing one of the leading roles. Their latest coproduction is the new film by Bilge Nuri Ceylan The Wild Pear Tree.
In 2014 she was chosen to be part of Producers on the Move during Cannes Film Festival, she is EAVE national representative and member of the European Film Academy.
TEONA STRUGAR MITEVSKA
Teona Strugar Mitevska was born in 1974 in an artistic family in Skopje, Macedonia. She started as a child actor, trained as a painter and a graphic designer and later studied at M.F.A program in film at the Tisch School of Arts, New York University.
She made her debut as short film director in 2001 with VETA, and has been making films ever since: HOW I KILLED A SAINT, 2004; I AM FROM TITOV VELES, 2007; THE WOMAN WHO BRUSHED OFF HER TEARS, 2012; TERESA AND I, 2013; WHEN THE DAY HAD NO NAME, 2017.
Her last film GOD EXISTS, HER NAME IS PETRUNIJA was shot in January of 2018.
Since 2016 SISTERS AND BROTHER MITEVSKI, a company she established together with her brother and sister have co-produced The wild Pear Tree by Nuri Bilge Ceylan; Nightlife by Damjan Kozole and Sieranevada by Christi Puiu.
In 2018 she was nominated to the rank of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministry of Culture of France.
Teona Strugar Mitevska lives in Brussels, Belgium with her son Kaeliok.
Vuk Mitevski was born is Skopje, Macedonia. In 2005 he graduated from Bennington College, USA, specializing in sculpture, painting and set design. He lived in New York where he had solo exhibition of his monumental paintings Saints in Gallery MC in 2006. He returned to Macedonia to work as set designer on the feature films by Teona S. Mitevska.
His participation at the Biennale of the Young artists from Europe and Mediterranean 2005 was awarded by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Napoli and one of his works is included in their collection. In 2009 he had his solo exhibition at the Macedonian National Gallery, supported by the Ministry of Culture of R. Macedonia. The exhibition was received as one of the best exhibitions in Macedonian for 2009 and he was picked by Macedonian press as one of the most exciting emerging young visual artists. His lproject “Light” was shown at “Nord art 2010” in Carlshuette, Germany, the biggest art exhibition in Northern Europe.
Animation films are his greatest challenge and inspiration. In 2008 his animation Angel was selected for the Locarno Film festival 2008 and was screened at Sarajevo Film Festival the same year.
His animation Alerik which was awarded Robert Bosh Foundation grant, had the international premier at Sarajevo Film Festival 2013, traveled to more than 60 festivals and received numerous awards.
In 2013 he created stop-motion animation for the Turkish pop band Can Bonomo. In 2018 he finished his new drawing animation EDNA. All his animations are made under the auspices of Sisters and Brother Mitevski Production, company which was established in 2001 with his two sisters.
He is working as set designer on all the film of Teona S. Mitevska, How I killed a Saint, Iam from Titov Veles, The Woman who Brushed off her tears, When the day had no name, God exists , her name is Petrunija.
Currently he is working in his studio
in Skopje , preparing his new exhibition.
